Animal Crossing New Horizons villagers tier list: Ranking the best villagers

Revealing the Animal Crossing community’s favorite characters.

What’s Animal Crossing without the villagers? The wide and quickly expanding player base of Animal Crossing sure has many opinions about which Animal Crossing villagers are the best to have in your town and which you want to get rid of and send packing as soon as possible.

That being said, the way people rank the Animal Crossing villagers is very personal. Some love a villager with a surly attitude. Others prefer bubbly villagers with aloof phrases that make them endearing. In this Animal Crossing Tier List, we will be ranking the characters by their character design, personality, and popularity. Although over 350 Animal Crossing villagers are available, we’ll only be ranking the top 50 to give you a good idea of who’s hot and who’s not.

S-Tier Villagers

In the ranks of the S-tier or the top-tier villagers, we have the Marshal sitting at the top. His smug demeanor and blush have gotten everyone cooing over him. Let’s see the rest of the list.

  • Marshal
  • Judy
  • Raymond
  • Ankha
  • Marina
  • Stitches
  • Sherb
  • Molly

These villagers have lots of personalities built into each of them. Especially the smug ones, who are considered to have pretty rare personality types.

A-Tier Villagers

A-Tier villagers aren’t as popular or well-wanted as the S-Tier rank, but you will still want these villagers to stick around for as long as possible. These villagers are adorable and unique, such as Dom, the perpetually teary-eyed sheep.

  • Dom
  • Audie
  • Cherry
  • Bob
  • Beau
  • Coco
  • Zucker
  • Fauna
  • Lucky

In our opinion, a special stand-out here is Coco. Coco the rabbit is so jarring yet fun to look at, with her empty eyes and mouth. Some players love her for how she freaks them out, and others for how cute she still looks despite it all.

B-Tier Villagers

The B-Tier villagers are still fairly popular among the Animal Crossing community. Although their character designs and personalities aren’t as solid or stellar as the above tiers, most players will still welcome these villagers with open arms.

  • Lolly
  • Merengue
  • Rosie
  • Diana
  • Roald
  • Goldie
  • Scoot
  • Tangy
  • Ketchup
  • Erik

Among this tier, Merengue has to have the cutest character design. That cake and strawberry-like horn on her head is incredibly endearing. She loves to wear her chef’s outfit and is probably the most popular among the food-designed Animal Crossing villagers.

C-Tier Villagers

The C-Tier villagers are the less remarkable ones out there. Not exactly popular with the player base, but not the worst either. Still, that doesn’t mean you won’t love them if they come to your town.

  • Julian
  • Pietro
  • Apollo
  • Maple
  • Flora
  • Tia
  • Punchy
  • Cookie
  • Fang
  • Whitney
  • Weber
  • Lily

D-Tier Villagers

These D-tier villagers, while still being among the top 50 in overall popularity, are villagers that most players don’t jive with. Their character designs often fall a bit short. But you might be one of the rare players who would rank them among higher tiers.

  • Skye
  • Flurry
  • Isabelle
  • Octavian
  • Pashmina
  • Poppy
  • Filbert
  • Melba
  • Clay
  • Bangle

Did your favorite villager appear among any of our tiers? If not, we applaud you for being a rarity in the AC community! Everyone has their own favorite Animal Crossing villager, so don’t let others get in the way of your joy.
